The Hawks have arrested the Director-General in the KwaZulu-Natal premier’s office.
Nonhlanhla Mkhize was arrested on Monday.
It forms part of a probe into the Mhlathuze Water Board involving fraud amounting to R40-million.
In 2019, the Public Protector found the then Mpumalanga DG had acted unethically.
It was in relation to a tender for a 2013 memorial service for former President Nelson Mandela.
Busisiwe Mkhwebane recommended then KZN premier Sihle Zikalala act against Mkhize.
That report though was quashed by the KwaZulu-Natal High Court.
