Premier Winde & Hill-Lewis visit families of 11 missing fishermen

Western Cape Premier Alan Winde and Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis have conveyed condolences to the families of 11 fishermen lost at sea in Cape Town.

A fishing boat carrying 20 fishermen capsized 30 nautical miles off Slangkop Point on Friday.

Nine of them have since been found unharmed.

However, after an extensive search for the missing 11 came up short over the weekend, the search was called off.

A probe into the cause of the incident is underway.

Hill-Lewis said that he and the premier visited the families of the missing fishermen on Monday.

“Today, we are mourning with the families of those fishermen lost, 10 of whom are from Cape Town, with one from Malmesbury. We honour and remember these fishermen, and we continue to pray for their families.”
