About 14,500 jobs affected in Gauteng – Premier David Makhura

More than 14,000 jobs in Gauteng were affected by the recent unrest. Premier David Makhura says thousands of people still have not been able to get back to work. Makhura says about 30 shopping centres were vandalised.

“14,500 jobs have been affected by the unrest, in other words, we have a significant number of people, 14,500 of them, a lot of them still have not resumed duty because there is work and repairs that are still happening in the malls,” he said.

“How many malls were affected in Gauteng or shopping centres, 30 malls were affected in Gauteng province in this was in the townships of Ekhuruleni and the townships of Johannesburg. Makhura also says the recent violence and looting is estimated to have cost Gauteng R3.5-billion.
