Prasa derailed by non-payment of accounts

The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa is the latest to have its services cut off by the City of Tshwane. According to mayor Randall Williams, the agency owes R28-million. The metro is continuing its disconnection drive, targeting heavy consumers like businesses and government departments.

Prasa spokesperson Andiswa Makanda says they are in talks to have their services reconnected by the end of Thursday.

“Indeed we do have a debt of R28-million and you must remember this R28-million is because of the many stations around Tshwane,” Makanda said.

“Around about 30 stations that owe the City of Tshwane electricity and water bill but also we must remember that during COVID we were not running a lot of services and we couldn’t generate revenue or income, so that’s how we find ourselves in this predicament with the City of Tshwane where we’re owing them R28-million.
