Eskom eases power cuts to stage 1 as generation capacity increases

Eskom said that load shedding would be eased on Wednesday thanks to the return to service of two generating units and an increase in generation capacity.

The power utility said it had reduced its rolling power cuts from stage 2 to stage 1 on Wednesday morning, until 2 pm.

The utility’s Daphne Mokoena said Eskom would continue to monitor the power grid and provide an update should anything change.

“Due to sufficient emergency reserve, and a slight increase in available generating capacity resulting from a return to service of two units, load shedding will be reduced to stage 1 from 10 am to 2 pm today [Wednesday]. Thereafter, stage 2 load shedding will be implemented until further notice.”
