Eskom COO apologises for power cuts

Eskom COO Jan Oberholzer has apologised to the nation for plunging it into darkness. He says the power utility will try its best to get the system running sooner than expected but that all depends on the successful return to service of the units, and no further breakdowns.

Oberholzer was giving an update after Eskom implemented stage 2 power cuts from Wednesday until Monday morning.

“It may be that the system will improve and the breakdowns will not be where we are currently and the way we found it leading up to now. There is a possibility that we may lift it,” he said.

“However, it will depend on the successful return to service of the units.

“So, do we see some load-shedding up until the end of March? The risk remains… If we have a bad patch and time that we’ve had the last five, six days, we will definitely find ourselves wanting.”
