Dozens of retrenched Post Office workers are expected to protest at the state-owned enterprise’s headquarters in Tshwane on Friday over the non-payment of severance packages and UIF.
The workers claim that since their retrenchments on 30 April, there has been confusion over the processing of their pension funds and unemployment insurance funds.
They said talks between them and Communications Minister Mondli Gungubele fell flat, and that they had now resorted to demonstrating.
Worker representative Tutu Mokwena: “Some of the employees that have been reclined are still reflecting in the post office subsystem, so they’re not able to get the UIF money. Workers are basically saying we are going there because we don’t want to be paid.”
