6 suspects arrested for possession of illegal firearms & suspected stolen property in CT

Police have arrested six suspects for possession of illegal firearms, ammunition, and suspected stolen property after intervening during a brawl in Bellville South.

The six men were found in possession of an imitation firearm, ammunition, and presumed stolen property on Sunday.

Police spokesperson, Joseph Swartbooi, said that the Maitland flying squad arrested the suspects while on patrol to the CBD.

“When the patrol vehicle arrived near the corners of Tulp and Osborne Street in Bellville South at around 16:40, they stopped their vehicle when they saw a group of people fighting with each other. The members intervened and saw one of the suspects produce a firearm.”

Swartbooi said that police arrested another suspect in a separate incident in Elsieskraal Road in Manenberg later that day.

“When they entered the premises, they saw a suspicious man trying to flee. They searched the man and recovered a 7.65 pistol with ammunition and detained the 33-year-old man on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Swartbooi said the suspects are set to appear in the Bellville and Athlone magistrates courts this week.
