Popo Maja charged in Digital Vibes tender saga

Senior health department official Popo Maja has been charged with fraud over the controversial Digital Vibes deal.

Maja was suspended as head of communications, alongside two other top officials.

He appeared in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Wednesday.

The former director handed himself over to police, and now faces two counts of corruption.

The R140 million deal was awarded in 2020 to help in publicizing information on National Health Insurance and the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, the funds were used for the personal benefit of some politicians.

Maja is alleged to have received two bribes worth R15,000.
