Upon arriving at the location, two suspects fled the house, prompting a chase by the officers in the crime prevention team. Meanwhile, the two CSC officers approached the house to investigate further.

“While the CSC members approached the house, one suspect emerged and opened fire,” said Makhele.

One of the CSC officers was fatally shot during the exchange. The assailant then took the officer’s service pistol before fleeing the scene.

Second Officer Ambushed

The situation escalated when the suspects ambushed the backup vehicle during the pursuit.

“As the chase continued, another suspect ambushed the driver of the backup vehicle while he was reversing the police vehicle,” Makhele explained.

The officer driving the vehicle was shot in the neck and succumbed to his injuries on the spot. Fortunately, the other officers in the vehicle were unharmed.

Suspects Escape with Stolen Items

The suspects, who were reportedly wearing balaclavas to conceal their identities, managed to escape the scene. They fled with two cellphones and an undisclosed amount of cash.
