Police in Limpopo have launched a major search operation after a 2-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped from her home while her family was asleep.
The child, identified as Omphile Sethole, disappeared in the early hours of Saturday, 2 May 2026, from Ga-Mabuela village near Tinmyne, leaving her family and community shocked.
What makes the case even more alarming is that the toddler was reportedly last seen inside the house before vanishing without a trace.
Toddler Disappears While Family Sleeps
According to police, the incident happened during the early hours of the morning. Omphile was reportedly sleeping at home with her family when she disappeared. Police say her 52-year-old grandmother woke up at around 2 am to use the bathroom and took the toddler with her before returning to bed.
However, when the grandmother woke up again at around 6 am, the child was gone.
The discovery immediately sparked panic inside the home. Family members began searching for the toddler, but there was no sign of her.
Open Window Raises Fears of Break-In
Police later found that a window in the room had been left wide open.
That discovery has raised fears that someone may have entered the home while the family was sleeping and taken the child. Police have since opened cases of housebreaking and kidnapping as they investigate what happened.

After Omphile was discovered missing, relatives and neighbours immediately joined the search.
