Police investigating over 1,500 reports of Eskom sabotage

Police are investigating over 1,500 reports of sabotage at Eskom. Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa says police are winning the war against the scourge.  He said 126 people have been arrested since last April. Ramokgopa said they are also focused on fraud and corruption at the utility.

“Over the period 1 April 2022 to date, there’s 2,147 Eskom cases that have been reported to the South African Police Services and about 1,586 of these 2,147 are under investigation,” the minister said. And since that period of 1 April 2022, they’ve made 126 arrests. Of course its gradual but it’s meaningful progress that we are making.

“Just to make the point that in addition to the technical solutions that we are seeking to address the issues of Eskom, we are also focused on addressing some of the underlying problems which have been fraud, corruption and issues of security at Eskom.”
