LAGOS — Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested two principal suspects in connection with the brutal murder and burning of a young woman on Saturday in the Gangare area near the canal behind Mile 12 Market.
In a statement released on Monday, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrests and clarified key facts surrounding the case.
According to the Police, the victim—identified as a native of Nasarawa State—was allegedly attacked and set ablaze in a premeditated act masterminded by her estranged boyfriend and his accomplices. Contrary to speculation circulating on social media, the Police emphasized that there was no blasphemy involved in the incident.
“The victim was living with relatives from the northern part of the country, and her exact occupation remains unknown,” Hundeyin stated.
“Preliminary investigations have revealed that she is from Nasarawa State and not a Yoruba woman. The prolonged dispute between her and her boyfriend, who is currently at large and had attempted to forcefully rekindle their relationship, led to the conspiracy. The boyfriend, along with other suspects—two of whom are now in custody—planned and executed the attack.”
The arrested suspects are currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where they are assisting the Police in identifying and locating the remaining accomplices, including the alleged boyfriend.

“Residents of Lagos are encouraged not to panic and to go about their lawful activities peacefully while awaiting the outcome of the investigation, which will be made public,” he said.
He added that misinformation being spread online had the potential to cause unnecessary fear and division. “People must be careful not to spread unverified content, especially when it pertains to sensitive issues like this,” he warned.
Hundeyin reaffirmed the commitment of the Lagos State Police Command to maintaining peace, law, and order in every part of the state.
