The mother of the Phoenix woman killed by a member of the Presidential Protection Services last week is pleading for the public to help bury their daughter.
Twenty-six-year-old Phumla Mtshali died after Warrant Officer Leon Chetty ploughed a state vehicle into her.
The officer then fled the scene and disappeared for the weekend before taking his own life on Monday.
And as the Mtshali family prepares to bury their own, the mother is appealing for assistance.
Mtshali’s death is still fresh for her family, especially her sister, Philile, and their mother, Simangele Mtshali.
The mother, visibly emotional, sat on the mattress mourning her daughter, as she described her as a lively person, who loved people.
But as the days to her funeral draw closer, the mother said she would appreciate assistance to give her child a dignified send-off.
“I find myself facing an issue where a lot of people, even some that I don’t know, wanting to come to her funeral and to give support to the family but I don’t have much, I am not sure if I’ll be able to cater for all but I am requesting that even the State helps me with the burial arrangements.”
Phumla is set to be laid to rest in Bhamshela, north of the province at the weekend.
