Petition for more policing in Table Mountain National Park handed to Parliament

Friends of Table Mountain handed over a petition at the gates of Parliament on Thursday evening to call for more policing in the Table Mountain National Park.
This follows a spate of ongoing crime in the park, which stretches from Signal Hill to Cape Point and has become a hotspot for muggings.
A small group of protestors gathered outside Parliament to hand over the petition to the minister of forestry, fisheries, and environmental affairs and the minister of police, who both did not show up.
However, the petition was handed to the Democratic Alliance’s spokesperson for forestry, fisheries, and enviroment, Dave Bryant.
“We’ve been calling on the minister and SANParks to increase the security component and that doesn’t just mean putting random security on the mountain – it means ensuring that we have properly trained, properly equipped officers.”
Bryant said that he will make sure the petition, which has garnered more than 10,000 signatures, gets to Minister Barbara Creecy.
