DA lodges state capture complaints against ANC’s Paul Mashatile and Fikile Mbalula
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has lodged an official complaint with the Public Protector against Deputy President Paul Mashatile on allegations that he received favours from a State tender beneficiary.
The party has at the same time lodged another complaint against former minister and now African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general Fikile Mbalula.
The DA said Mbalula received a loan from a board member of the National Lotteries Commission and wants to find out if the loan was in any way linked to grant money that was misappropriated.
Mashatile’s woes continue as the DA becomes the latest party to lodge an official complaint with the Public Protector.
DA spokesperson Solly Malatsi said they want an investigation into what they believe to be a breach of the Executive Members Ethics Act by Mashatile, after he received funds from State tender beneficiary Edwin Sodi.
He said the link between politicians and business has all the hallmarks of state capture.
“We believe the unethical axis between business and politicians in government has all the characteristics of state capture and what these allegations infer to is a potential conflict of interest.”
On Fikile Mbalula’s complaint that he received a loan from a member of the National Lotteries Commission, Malatsi said they want the full facts to be made public.
Mbalula and Mashatile have both denied the allegations.
