Pastor Mboro to remain in custody until next court date in October

Controversial pastor, Paseka “Mboro” Motsoeneng, will spend the next two months behind bars pending police investigations into his kidnapping case.

On Monday, Mboro, a relative, and his bodyguard, Clement Baloyi, made their third court appearance in a bid to secure their release on bail.

The trio was arrested following a viral video showing them attempting to forcefully remove two children from a school in Katlehong.

Despite a lengthy submission by his defence, Mboro will remain behind bars until his next appearance on 21 October.

Magistrate Katlego Mokoena cited several reasons for her decision to deny two of the three accused bail, including Mboro’s grammatical errors in his bail affidavit and poorly supported assurances to the court that he would not be a flight risk.

“Gentlemen, you’ll then appear in district court number two, that’s the reception court, that’s on the 21st day of October for investigations. Accused number one and two, since your bail has been denied, you shall remain in custody. Accused number three you are released on a warning.”

Mokoena did, however, release the third accused, who can only be identified as a close relative, with a warning.

After the judgment, the defence team initially refused a two-month postponement proposed by the State before conceding and agreeing on the October date.
