WATCH: Grade 12 pupils performing rituals with a white goat to pass their exams

They wish to pass their exams, but instead of studying, they decided to phahla to amadlozi (call on the ancestors) for help. This is what nine high school pupils, dressed in blue uniforms, did in a video that has since surfaced.
The class of grade 12C pupils is seen kneeling while burning incense, listening to one of them communicating with the ancestors.
One pupil is seen dragging a white goat closer to the incense while another one, sitting on a chair, is heard asking their ancestors to bless them with good marks for their upcoming exams.
“Siyanibiza nonke zidalwa zakwa 12C, size la ukuzokwenza lomaesebenzi wokuthi sifuna ukuphasa. Siyanibiza bonke oNonkosi oShwabade, abakikize omama lapho,” the pupil said.
The video has been doing the rounds on social media, with many users claiming that all grade 12C pupils were problematic.
Nkosi Nsumo said: “They should not be playing like this. One day when their lives take a different turn, they would have forgotten that they once disrespected amadlozi.”
Sharon Refilwe wrote: “It’s nice being a kid. So long as they are having fun and not bullying each other.”
Then Lelo Zakwe said: “The problem classroom. Even teachers cry and don’t want to teach such pupils because they always play around.”
Tumelo Mokoena added: “It’s the ladies ululating for me.”
However, izangoma did not agree with what the pupils were doing, but were glad they recognized culture and respected the power of ancestors.
Gobela Nontsikazi said it was wrong of them to play like that because they were calling on clan names, which might send mixed signals.
“Not everyone is allowed to burn impepho and call on the ancestors. I don’t know if they are playing or doing practicals for their schoolwork, but they should be careful. It might seem like fun and games, but the consequences of fooling around could end in tears.”
Sangoma Mntimande Ngwenya said he found the video amusing.
“It’s surprising that they know what to do. You’d think kids don’t pay attention when rituals are done at home, only to discover that they are copying everything. It’s OK if they are doing practicals, but they should not make a habit of playing with such sacredness.”
A Life Orientation teacher, who asked not to be named, said it was possible that they were doing practicals.
“Pupils have minds that work over time. Who would have thought of this? I doubt they’d be allowed to bring a goat into the school premises if they did not get permission. This is not something you normally come across. They outdid themselves. I really hope they get good marks and study hard because ancestors won’t miraculously help them pass.”
