Busisiwe Mkhwebane doesn’t know the law, says parliament’s 2nd-in-command

Deputy speaker of parliament Lechesa Tsenoli says there is “no legal basis” for the speaker to demand that President Cyril Ramaphosa publish all the donations he received during his ANC election campaign, and believes public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane’s order to that effect is “not implementable” and “should be set aside”.

The speaker, whom Mkhwebane has ordered to take action against Ramaphosa over what she has found to be his dishonesty to parliament and potentially criminal CR17 campaign funding, is now fighting alongside the president for that remedial action to be overturned.

Tsenoli is also adamant that much of the action Mkhwebane ordered the speaker to take in response to her politically explosive findings of suspected money-laundering and dishonesty against Ramaphosa constitutes an overreach of her powers and is legally unsound.
