SA Post Office demands monopoly on small parcel deliveries

The e-Commerce and small businesses sector could be the biggest losers if the Post Office and Icasa have their way.

The state parties are going to court to enforce their interpretation of the Postal Services.

If they win, the Post Office would have the exclusive mandate to deliver parcels weighing less than a kilogram.

But some question if the Post Office is really up to the task.

The organization suffered an operating loss of R3-billion in the last financial year and it’s expected to incur a further R2-billion loss in the next year.
