Paraguayan national busted with cocaine at OR Tambo Airport

OR Tambo International Airport is quickly becoming a hotbed for drug busts as police nabbed yet another trafficker, making it 14 arrests in just a few weeks.
In the latest arrest, a 43-year-old Paraguayan national was stopped moments after stepping off a flight from São Paulo.
Working alongside the South African Revenue Service (SARS), police discovered the man had swallowed more than 20 pellets suspected to contain cocaine.
This latest bust marks the third drug mule arrest in just seven days as authorities step up efforts to crack down on international drug trafficking at South Africa’s busiest airport.
The airport has seen a wave of arrests, with at least one drug mule being nabbed each week for the past month.
“A medical examination confirmed that he had swallowed multiple foreign objects and has so far released more than 20 bullets suspected to contain cocaine,” said police spokesperson Amanda van Wyk.
Van Wyk added that drug traffickers should expect increased scrutiny as they intensify operations.
