Papa Penny reacts to claims that artists federation mishandled R15million

The Cultural & Creative Industries Federation of SA is accused of ‘mishandling’ a R15 million grant it received from the Arts and Culture Department, but Tsonga musician, Papa Penny, denies any truth to the claims.
Papa Penny, musician, TV star and former deputy president of the Cultural & Creative Industries Federation of SA, denies that the organisation ‘mishandled’ a generous R15 million grant. TimesLIVE reports that the Arts & Culture Department allocated the grant to the organisation, which is meant to develop and promote the economic and social interests of the creative and cultural industries. It’s a non-profit organisation. However, several artists have voiced accusations that the grant money is not being used for its intended purpose.
According to City Press, Eugene Mthethwa and Mercy Pakela are some of the artists who made the accusations. But Papa Penny stated that he knows of no such thing. “As far as I know, the money was used to not only run the organisation but ensure that all the relevant meetings across South Africa are held and all the items on the agenda that needed financial attention received it.
The musician said those who have concerns should approach the Arts & Culture Department for the organisation’s financial reports.
It costs money to have meetings, to plan things, etc. I know nothing about ‘mishandling’ money. We also submitted (financial) reports to the department every year, so whoever has doubts should check those.
