Panyaza Lesufi says Gauteng govt’s made a firm decision to prioritise education in our budgeting

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi said that his administration was working relentlessly to cushion the education sector from the effects of the budget cuts.

Speaking at the 24th National Teaching Awards at Birchwood Hotel in Kempton Park on Saturday, Lesufi paid tribute to South Africa’s educators.

He reiterated President Cyril Ramaphosa’s earlier remarks, reaffirming Gauteng’s commitment to nurturing top-tier learners despite financial challenges.

“We believe that if you can’t get education right, it becomes incredibly difficult to contribute to economic growth and ensure employment for the jobless. We have made a firm decision to prioritise education in our budgeting.”

Lesufi emphasised that education remained at the core of Gauteng’s development strategy, underscoring its importance in shaping the province’s economic future.
