Over 4,000 Gauteng pupils yet to be placed

The Gauteng Department of Education is meeting with parents to try and resolve the pupil placement crisis. Over 4,000 Grade 1 and 8 Gauteng pupils are yet to receive placement for the 2022 academic year. Some frustrated parents staged a sit-in at the Gauteng Department of Education offices on Friday.
They refused to leave until their children are placed for the 2022 academic year. The department said it is hopeful all Grade 1 and 8 learners will be placed by the end of Friday.
One parent says they were promised they would be sent SMSes but are still waiting. The Department says another meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday to resolve the matter.
Gauteng Education Department spokesperson Steve Mabona said, “we are still discussing with parents. There are possibilities, we will probably be in a position to resolve their issues on Tuesday.
“We need to consult with management. Parents have put some suggestions on the table. We need to take them to management. They will then make a decision. In that area we are challenged. There is a shortage of schools in the area but if we work together we should be in a position to find each other.
