Western Cape health authorities shift focus to other diseases

After more than a year of prioritizing COVID-19 patients, Cape health authorities say they now have plans in place to catch up with non-COVID health conditions.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, health officials were already struggling to get TB, HIV, diabetes, and cancer under control and now it’s going to take even longer.

The Western Cape Health Department says it will use a $10-million donation from the US government to improve health services, including HIV and TB.

An innovative pilot project to alleviate long queues for chronic medication will also benefit from this grant.

People who require chronic medication will be given the option of getting their meds delivered to their homes or to an e-locker.
