Operation Shanela nabs 821 suspects in Carletonville

Gauteng police have netted 821 wanted suspects in Carletonville on Gauteng’s West Rand.

It was part of Operation Shanela that descended on the area on Saturday night.

More arrests are expected as Phase 2 of the operation moves into high gear.

“We netted 821 suspects,” said Gauteng police commissioner Tommy Mthombeni.

“The second phase of the operation we managed to arrest 16 people for drunken driving, 12 illegal immigrants and we also got three arrests for drugs.”
