Operation O Kae Molao nets more than 800 in Roodepoort

More than 800 people were arrested in and around Johannesburg during police operation O Kae Molao.

Gauteng Police Commissioner Elias Mawela says over 780 of the arrests were wanted suspects.

Mawela said the area is one of the crime hotspots in the province.

“Roodepoort is one of our priority stations. We felt that we need to come to this side, assist the station commander,” he said.

“We believe that with tonight’s operation, we can be able to can reduce the levels of crime.”

Mawela said 21 suspects were arrested for murder and attempted murder, 14 for drinking and driving, 31 undocumented persons, and three illegal liquor outlets were closed and liquor confiscated.”
