Parents of unplaced pupils in Gauteng say they want online system scrapped

Parents whose children are yet to be placed in schools across Gauteng said their children were now bearing the burden of a fractured system.

Thousands of pupils have started the 2024 schooling year.

However, many have been left in the lurch, with parents queuing from the early hours of Wednesday morning at the Tshwane West District offices.

Frustrated and exhausted in a queue that seemed to have no end, parents and guardians said they wanted the online process scrapped.

One grandmother said she feared her granddaughter had become despondent about her future after she was not admitted to a school.

“It’s painful when a child doesn’t go to school because she was counting down the days and today, the first day of school, she’s sitting at home. It’s so painful to her and she asks whether she’s skipping a year because she’s sitting at home.”

Parents have vowed to return after being sent back home, again, with no resolution.
