26 injured in Mandeni bus crash and One pupil airlifted to the hospital

A female pupil had to be airlifted to hospital following a crash on the R102 near Mandeni.
According to Paul Herbst from IPSS Medical Rescue a school bus travelling from Mandeni collided with an articulated motor vehicle at the R102 and R74 intersection earlier on Monday morning. A total of 27 school children who were on the bus sustained injury.

“One of the scholars seated in-front of the bus was entrapped and sustained critical injuries. Whilst under the care of both IPSS and Lenmed advanced life support paramedics, Kwadakuza Fire and Rescue service extricated her from the wreckage.

“Due to her injuries and prolonged entrapment, Lenmed1 specialised air ambulance was activated to transport her through to Lenmed Ethekweni Hospital and Heart Center,” said Herbst.

Herbst said the additional 26 scholars sustained injuries ranging from moderate to minor.

“All patients were treated and transported to various medical facilities,” said Herbst.
