New COVID-19 variant Omicron reproductive rate highest yet – Health Minister
Health Minister Dr Joe Phaahla says while it’s too soon to conclude whether the Omicron variant is less severe than the others, the reproductive rate is unlike anything the country has seen before.
Meanwhile, almost 1-in-5 hospital admissions, in the early days of the discovery of the Omicron variant, comprised of young children.
Phaahla says these numbers have come down
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) reported 22,391 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday.
