Off-road biker airlifted to hospital following mine dump crash

Gauteng: At 14H27 Sunday afternoon Netcare 911 responded to reports of a motorcycle crash off Robert Avenue in Benoni.

Reports from the scene indicate that an off-road biker went over the edge of a mine dump tumbling approximately twenty meters down.

When a Netcare 911 rescue technician arrived on scene a rope and basket system was set up to gain access to the patient.

Off-road biker airlifted to hospital

The patient believed to be in his twenties was assessed and found to have sustained serious injuries and required Advanced Life Support intervention to stabilise him.

The patient along with the assistance of the Benoni Fire and Rescue Services hauled the patient back up to safety.

Due to the nature of his injuries the Netcare 7 helicopter ambulance was activated via Gau-Med ambulance services to transport the man to hospital.
