‘Attempted rape victim deserves justice’: NPA speaks on trial of Luyanda Botha

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said that the trial of convicted rapist and killer, Luyanda Botha, was not a public relations stunt.

Botha, who is already serving a life sentence for the 2019 rape and murder of 19-year-old Uyinene Mrwetyana, is currently on trial for an attempted rape case in 2014.

NPA spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said that the State would ensure justice was served even though the matter was ten years old and Botha was already serving a life sentence.

“It is not PR at all. Remember, there is a victim here who deserves justice for what happened to her. We need to ensure that we prosecute him and to ensure justice for her. So, she deserves that justice. We are trying to give her that justice. Just because he is serving a sentence, it doesn’t mean she doesn’t deserve justice. She deserves justice because there was an injustice done to her.”
