President Cyril Ramaphosa under deadline to appoint new NPA boss

President Cyril Ramaphosa has 90 days to appoint a new NPA boss.

The Constitutional Court on Monday ruled that both Mxolisi Nxasana’s removal as NPA head and Shaun Abrahams’s subsequent appointment were unconstitutional.

Nxasana is also liable to pay back some of the R17.3-million he received to quit and Abrahams has been ordered to vacate his office immediately.

Spokesperson Khusela Diko says the Presidency’s priority is to find an appropriate acting replacement as soon as possible.

“We’ve no doubt that the president will move with the necessary speed to make an announcement as it relates to the acting NDPP.

“From then on, within the 90 days, the president will make an announcement on the permanent head of the NDPP
