Nonini asks genge artists to tread carefully

Nonini Has No Kind Words For Genge Artists, Asks them to tread carefully.
Legendary Kenyan artist Nonini has called out Kenyan Genge artists on vulgarity, controversy and inappropriateness.
The artist who was hosted on ‘Clearing the Airwaves’ had no kind words for artists in the Genge genre as he opened up about his journey in the music industry.
Nonini shared his personal experience on being an artist who struggled at the start of his journey opening up on how he also sang vulgar lyrics that were detrimental to his business as an artist. In that light, he asked the artists to do better when it comes to how they brand and represent themselves.
As an upcoming artist, Nonini sang very nasty songs that cost him corporate endorsement despite the fact that most of them were hits and well received by the public.
“Kina Nameless walikuwa wanapata ma-endorsements, kina Redsan, kina Ogopa, guys were doing shows for Redbull, Trust condom, watu wanawekwa kwa ma billboards. Although I had hits, biggest hits in this country, I never got any endorsement, nothing. Because the people who were seating in the board rooms back then walikuwa wanasema zii, huyu jamaa ni controversial hatuwezi muweka kwa any of our brands” Nonini shared
Adding that,
I came to realize that baadaye. Kwa hii time yote tuko na kina Clemo so we are realising mbona hatupati maendorsement? Mashow napiga, ground iko sawa, tour ndo hizo ziko scheduled kupiga USA, Australia wapi wapi lakini endorsement, zii. Tukiangalia endorsements ni ma artistes wengine wanapiga.
Nonini is known to be the Godfather of Genge, a genre which was embraced and endorsed by a whole generation of artistes to date as, gengetone.
The fact that he had never been endorsed by any major brands despite being in the industry for a very long time until two years ago is a testimony to many upcoming artists to heed to his advice and do better for themselves if they really want to be respected and bag endorsements.
