Non-compliant spaza shop owners will be dealt with: Senzo Mchunu

Police Minister Senzo Mchunu says they are working on deploying intelligence to check the compliance of all spaza shops in Gauteng. This after the death of five children in Naledi in Soweto due to suspected food poisoning bought from a foreign-owned spaza shops over the weekend.

The children, aged between six and 10, died within minutes of each other.

One child is still in ICU.Their memorial service is expected to take place on Friday, while the mass funeral service is scheduled to take place on Sunday at the Naledi Hall in Soweto.

Mchunu says this is becoming a serious concern.

“We can’t just leave it to parents or leave it to schools, we just have to do the profile of all these areas and the owners of these businesses while checking each and every incident. Surely we are going to get to the bottom of this and deal with it decisively once and for all.
