In 2023 after actress Nompilo Maphumulo left Uzalo, there was rumour that she was fired, and her alleged attempts to beg the production team to let her stay were futile.
Now, the publication can confirm the actress, who plays Nosipho Xulu, is making a comeback.
Producers developed a storyline where Nosipho was sent to jail after killing her husband, a pastor, a role portrayed by Menzi Biyela.
Sources said the actress has started shooting and will appear this month.
“When she left Uzalo, she tried to beg producers to let her stay. But their excuse was that they had run out of ideas on how to expand her storyline. It was sad for her. But now she’s back and started shooting her scenes,” said the source.
A second insider said they were surprised when they saw Nompilo on set.
“We never thought she would return. Hence, we were all so surprised when we first saw her. Her storyline still revolves around her jail time and outside businesses,” said the source.
Uzalo’s public relations manager, Yvonne Siphuka confirmed Nompilo’s return.
“Yes, we’re thrilled to announce the return of Nompilo Maphumulo as Nosipho Xulu in Uzalo,” Yvonne said.
“Her comeback promises to bring heightened suspense and drama, as her character’s new storyline will be set in prison.”
She said the return is aimed at sparking debate among viewers.
“This gripping plot is sure to captivate viewers and spark conversations. She has already started shooting, and we can’t wait for viewers to see what we have to show,” Yvonne added.
