Nomathemba Mokgethi appointed as the new Gauteng Health MEC

Nomathemba Mokgethi has been appointed as the new Gauteng Health MEC.

Gauteng Premier, David Makhura announced her appointment during a media briefing on Wednesday.

Mokgethi replaces Bandile Masuku who was removed for his involvement in a controversial PPE tender.

A Special Investigating Unit investigation found Masuku failed to provide sufficient oversight which led to irregular and wasteful expenditure

Mokgethi had been serving as Social Development MEC prior to her appointment to the health department.

Meanwhile, Makhura has also appointed former Johannesburg mayor, Parks Tau as the new Economic Development MEC.

Tau had been a deputy minister in the Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) department.
