DA firm on avoiding coalition with ANC citing no negotiations

The Democratic Alliance (DA) said it’s surprising that there’s still a perception that it will form a coalition with the African National Congress (ANC) when it has been fighting to unseat the governing party for 30 years.

On Wednesday, the DA joined six other parties for the moonshot pact convention at Emperors Palace.

One of the main issues that have been raised by some parties in the pact is the need for a declaration that none of them will go into a coalition with the ANC – despite the results of the 2024 general elections.

The publication understands that several party leaders believe the DA has kept the door open for a possible super coalition with the ANC.

“The have been no negotiations with the ANC. The has been no resolution by our federal executive for negotiations with the ANC. This is the game in town; this is the priority. This is where the DA’s focus, effort and resources are going to be all the way up until election day,” said DA leader John Steenhuisen.
