Sarah Jessica Parker’s lawyer denies theft allegations

Actress Sarah Jessica Parker (53) has been accused of borrowing pieces of jewellery in 2016 and not returning them.

The Divorce star has been accused of stealing jewellery worth $149 501,96 (R2.1m) from Kat Florence Designs, Page Six reports.

The four-time Golden Globe winner wore the jewellery during a photo shoot for the brand, the company claims.

She then asked if she could “personally borrow several pieces of the jewellery to wear for a few months and then return all the pieces.”

The agreement was that she could keep the accessories for two months but the company says the fashionista hasn’t given back the jewellery yet.

The jewellery include earrings worth $40 706,72 (R590 247,44) and a ring worth $27 115 (R393 167,50).

“It’s our position that after a photo shoot as part of the endorsement agreement Ms Parker requested that she could keep some of the pieces of the jewellery for a few months to wear personally,” the company’s lawyers said.

“We agreed and documented what she had. This happened in March 2016. More than two years later the jewellery was never returned to us.

“We believe that as Ms Parker has kept the jewellery since 2016 she should pay us for it.”

A COUNTERSTATEMENT

But Sarah’s lawyer, Ira Schreck, released a statement saying the allegations are false.

“SJP was under contract to Kat Florence and was asked to keep the jewellery so she could wear it on red carpets and other events when appropriate,” Schreck said.

“Sarah Jessica Parker is as honest and trustworthy a person as anyone I’ve ever met. She’s never and would never hold onto anything belonging to someone else.

“In fact, she’s been asking ever since Kat Florence wrongfully stopped paying her to have the pieces returned but Kat Florence didn’t seem terribly interested in getting them back.”

This isn’t the first time Kat Florence Designs and Sarah have had a dispute.

In April the jewellery company filed a lawsuit against her after their joint venture failed.

But she filed a countersuit in July that she wasn’t paid what was specified in the contract.
