Newly-elected MPs sworn in

South Africa’s newly-elected Members of Parliament will be sworn in on Wednesday. The president of the country and the National Assembly Speaker and Deputy will also be elected.

Members will be sworn in by Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng. They will either swear an oath before God or make a solemn affirmation.

Wednesday will see the first sittings of both two Houses, establishing the sixth democratic Parliament.

Watching over proceedings from the public gallery will be diplomats, guests of the Presidency and political parties, as well as friends and family of the new MPs.

MPs will take an oath to be faithful to the country, respect and uphold the Constitution and to do their duty to the best of their ability.
