National Assembly to elect new Speaker

The sixth Speaker of the National Assembly will be elected on Thursday.

While it’s expected the position will be contested by an opposition party candidate, the election is expected to be a shoo-in for former Defence Minister, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula.

This is after Thandi Modise has been forced to step down after only two years into her term.

The Cabinet reshuffle sees her trading places with Mapisa-Nqakula.
