Sports, Arts and Culture Minister, Nathi Mthethwa, has gazetted the rules for arts and cultural spaces. The new directives form part of amended Level 3 lockdown regulations.
South Africans can once again visit cinemas, theatres, museums, libraries and galleries.
“Cinemas, theatres and arts and cultural spaces overall may operate, provided that only 50 people or less are allowed, in compliance with health and safety protocols,” said Minister, Nathi Mthethwa in a statement.
Cinemas, theatres libraries and galleries will only be allowed to admit 50 patrons. They will have to wear masks at all times except while eating.
Venues will have to ensure social distancing and must provide sanitisers. The gazette also includes rules for sports.
Contact and non-contact sport may also resume without any spectators.
All athletes and support staff will have to be tested for COVID-19 before the resumption of any sporting code. But, bodies will have to write to the Minister within 14 days to apply to resume.
