New power purchase agreements signed

Another positive step has been taken to keep the lights on in South Africa. Power purchase agreements for three emergency power projects have been signed. The emergency power projects will add 150-Megawatts to the grid before the end of 2023.

The projects will be based in the Northern Cape and each one will dispatch 50 megawatts of power to the grid each day.

The projects form part of government’s emergency power initiative, intended to rapidly fill South Africa’s energy gap. Eight other projects, including the controversial Karpowership project, have not yet been signed.
