ANC’s Dada Morero has been elected the new Executive Mayor of the City of Joburg.
189 council members voted in him during the 29th Extra-Ordinary Council Meeting of the City of Joburg Metro Municipality in Joburg on Friday, 16 August.
Morero went head to head with DA councilor Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku, who received an underwhelming 60 votes.
The former MMC for finance in the city’s not new to this role; he was elected mayor in 2022 but had a short stay of 25 days before being ousted.
His re-election follows Kabelo Gwamanda of Al Jama-ah’s resignation on 13 August after an agreement between him and the ANC.
