New leadership for ANC in the Western Cape

The ANC in the Western Cape has new leadership.

Former Dullah Omar regional secretary Vuyiso JJ Tyhalisisu is the new chairperson.

He garnered 311 votes compared to Cameron Dugmore’s 282.

The deputy chair is Sharon Davids, while the Provincial Secretary is Neville Delport.

Derek Appel was elected unopposed as Treasurer.

Voting took place overnight.

The conference will close on Sunday with an address by ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa.

It only got underway on Saturday — a day late — after delays throughout Friday.

The party in the province last held an elective conference in 2015.

It’s hoping a renewal will help it take on the DA in the Western Cape.
