NCOP passes 2024 Appropriation Bill

The National Council of Provinces has passed the 2024 Appropriation Bill which appropriates R1.1 trillion of spending for the current financial year. It was first passed by the National Assembly last week and sent to the NCOP for concurrence.

The Bill lapsed in the sixth Parliament before the general elections. It had to be revived by the Assembly earlier this month. Various budget votes for different departments and state-owned entities had to be considered and approved before the Appropriation Bill was passed.

One of the main objectives of the Bill is to approve the spending of money from the National Revenue Fund to cater for the needs of government for the current financial year. NCOP Chairperson Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane read the results of the vote.

“Honourable delegates, the voting is a follows: Those who voted in favour, they are 43. Those who voted against they are 11. Those who abstained is zero. Therefore, honourable delegates, the Bill is agreed to in terms of section 75 of the constitution.”
