Umkhokha: The Curse actor Naymaps Maphalala (Mkhululi) opens up about his struggles

Umkhokha: The Curse lead actor Nkosinathi “Naymaps” Maphalala said people must not think he has no problems in his life just because he’s a TV star.

The 35-year-old actor and musician explained that although he plays Mkhululi, a character who solves people’s issues, it doesn’t mean his own life is problem-free.

He shared that he’s facing many challenges and praying for divine guidance. Naymaps, who portrays the man of God, Mkhululi “Zamcolo Wasendulo” in the popular Mzansi Magic show, released his single Umoya Wasendulo on Friday, 27 June.

He described his song as a plea for God to guide him and remain with him through his successes.

“Umoya Wasendulo is the Holy Spirit, God Himself. In the show, I play Zamcolo, who is seen as a chosen leader of the country’s largest religious group. Despite his revered status, it’s important to recognize that the true higher power is Umoya Wasendulo, God Himself. This song is essentially a prayer,” he explained.

Naymaps acknowledged that while people might think he’s living the dream, that’s far from the truth.

“No one is without problems, even those who lead a glamorous life,” he stated.

“We start by thanking God for life. With so much happening, we ask for His guidance and to never leave us, especially when success comes. While some may pray for power, cars, or houses, consider the impact if we simply seek success.”
