President Cyril Ramaphosa is warning lawlessness will not be tolerated during Monday’s planned shutdown.
He says police will deal swiftly with any form of intimidation.
“We are going to ensure that our people are safe,” Ramaphosa said.
“Any form of intimidation, any form of coersing people to act in a way which leads to violence, will be dealt with.
“We will not allow South Africa to be a country of anarchy.”
Ramaphosa said people are allowed to protest peacefully, but that “disorder” will not be allowed.
The EFF is calling on people to join a countrywide shutdown.
It’s protesting against rolling blackouts and calling for Ramaphosa’s resignation.
