Nathi Mankayi says i’m not a thief

Nathi will be back in court soon but in the meantime he wants his fans to know he is innocent.
“Some say because I was once a thug, I will always be a thug. That’s not nice,” he said.
“I’M NOT A THIEF!”
In a video, award-winning Afro-pop star Nathi Mankayi said he was heartbroken about the things said about him on social media.
He was responding to reports that he was arrested in connection with a business robbery he allegedly committed with his two friends last year at the offices of his former boss China Mpololo.
Nathi, who won many awards with his debut album that achieved multi-platinum status thanks to its hit song Nomvula, he said: “I want to set the record straight that it is not true.
“I’m here. I didn’t rob anyone.” He said he was the one who was robbed.
“I want people to think this through. You can’t hire someone, then rob them. The person I’m said to have robbed is the person I hired.”
He said it was unlikely that after working so hard he would go back to being a thug.
He said black people used someone’s past to demotivate them. “Yes, I was once arrested but I’ve passed that chapter. I’m no longer that person.”
Nathi was sentenced to eight years in prison for a 2002 crime relating to robbery. He was released after serving four years.
The NPA confirmed to Daily Sun on Wednesday that Nathi and two of his friends were arrested on Monday and released on Tuesday on warnings.
NPA spokeswoman Phindi Mjonondwane said they appeared in the Alexandra Magistrates Court on Tuesday and will appear again on 30 April.
She said they were provisionally charged with assault and theft.
Nathi and his friends allegedly went to his former boss Mpololo’s office and took laptops, landline phones, printers and cellphones.
