‘I’m grateful I came out alive’: Natasha Thahane worries fans following break-up with Thembinkosi

Popular South African actress Natasha Thahane has once again set tongues wagging, just days after announcing her break-up from the father of her son, Thembinkosi Lorch.

In an Instagram post on Thursday, the former Skeem Saam actress shared a video from a popular TikToker and added an alarming caption. While the video was not related to her break-up with Lorch, fans were convinced that Natasha’s caption was.

It read: “Suba muncu! [Don’t be bitter!] This happened a long time ago. Now let me post in peace. Abo ‘heal” animeni [Those telling me to’ heal’ must wait].”

She further wrote: “I’m grateful I came out alive.”

Netizens on X attempted to decipher Natasha’s post, especially the last sentence.

The Blood and Water star announced on Monday that she and the Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder have amicably gone their separate ways.

“Thembinkosi Lorch and I have mutually decided to part ways romantically. Despite the change in our relationship, we will remain friends and co-parents. I am looking forward to this new chapter of my life. #NewBeginnings,” the former The Queen actress wrote on her Instagram.

Shortly after her announcement, the actress also shared a short clip from United States (US) singer Rihanna, wherein she broke her silence about the night her ex-boyfriend and fellow musician, Chris Brown, physically abused her.

In the 2009 ABC News interview, the Barbados-born songtress can be heard saying: “All I kept thinking all the time: When is it going to stop? When it is going to stop?”

While Natasha has not stated why she and the former Orlando Pirates star broke up, fans believe her cryptic post is a cry for help.

This was also fuelled by a screenshot of an interaction purportedly between Natasha and one of her followers on Instagram, Minenhle Dlamini, who asked, “ukushayile nawe?” which means “did he also hit you?”

Although there is no response to the question, the screenshot shows that the author of the original post liked the comment.

Lorch currently has a suspended sentence hanging over his head.

In November last year, the footballer was handed a three-year direct imprisonment sentence (which was suspended for five years) for assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Fundiswa Nokuphiwa Mathithibala, in 2020.

According to Legal Wise, when someone is handed a suspended sentence, it is placed on hold completely or partly for a period not longer than five years. A suspended sentence may be subject to certain conditions, for example, that a person is not allowed to commit a similar criminal offence during the suspension of his or her sentence.

Should the accused break any of the conditions the suspended sentence is subject to, the full sentence will be put in force, and the accused will then have to go to jail.

In the case of the former Bucs midfielder, he avoided jail-time. However, he should not be convicted of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm for five years. Should he break this condition within the five-year period, his case will be revoked, and he will be imprisoned for three years.
